Hostal Austria, La Paz, Bolivia
February 18, 2008 Hotels (Hotels and Resorts), South America No CommentsA nice friendly hostel with running hot water and not far from the main parts of the city. We paid 25 Bolivianos each for a double room (Nov 2006), and the beds were very comfortable and the rooms cool and surprisingly, because of the hostel’s location, the continuous traffic was almost inaudible. Only 10 minutes from the main markets of La Paz, including the black market and the Coca museum with their tongue numbing sweets, you will find during the day that everything is easily reached by simply walking. At night, when looking for new restaurants of places to drink, I do advise a group taking a taxi as the roads can get disorientating nearer the bottom of La Paz. The Hostel owners also acted as agents for organising days like the infamous Death Road cycle track and trips to Tiahunaco. Normally the trip will include a bus or taxi from the front door of the hostel and back.
