Hilton Grosvenor Hotel, Edinburgh, Scotland

Business Trip, Europe, Hotels (Hotels and Resorts) No Comments

At the end of the main central street in Edinburgh, the Grosvenor Hotel is ideally situated near the main shopping and eating areas. At the bottom of the castle road, a small hike is required to see the castle and the nearby tourist attractions. But at long as you take the trip via the beautiful castle park, you will hardly notice. At the top of the castle road are several cheaper restaurants (Viva el Mexico, I personally recommend), as well and several other pubs and clubs.

The rooms in the hotel were a bit small for a Hilton hotel, but the beds were incredibly comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. A bar, as well as the restaurant is available in the hotel. The staff are helpful and the hotel is nicely kept. They also have no problem cooking a late breakfast for the heavy sleeper - as long as they ask nicely. But for all this, you pay a little more than your average 3-star hotel, so beware.

Queen Anne Hotel, Brussels, Belgium

Europe, Family Vacation, Hotels (Hotels and Resorts) No Comments

I stayed at the Queen Anne on weekend Eurostar trip. The location is within walking distance to the main places of interest in central Brussels. The rooms, while small, were very clean and tidy. The price for the weekend was 120 Euros and included breakfast.

The staff was helpful and but due to the time of the year (Belgium had just won their first world cup game), the noise near the hotel was quite loud at night. The restaurant downstairs serves decent food and the room service at the hotel is available late. I recommend dinning in the town square as there is a variety of restaurants available from different cultures, from French to Moroccan and of course Flemish.
