Thornton Beach itself, is an incredibly beautiful and never-ending beach. And with 120 caravan sites (with power and water), you will be waking up to a variety of new neighbors everyday. While the town of Thornton is quite small, which is part of the attraction, the holiday park is situated only 14km from Whakatane and 8km from Edgecumbe.
The Wharf has a boat ramp and you can also purchase supplies like tackles and bait from the main office. There is also a child’s play area along with a very good set of amenities (including well kept kitchen, with microwave, fridge and hotplates,) And for those that want a hot snack or don’t wish to cook that night, there is a food caravan each day that serves hot and cold food and drinks. A site will set you back as little as $12 or $15 NZD.
Having lived in Thornton as a child, it was a delight to return to the beach where I grew up and once again do all the activates I did as a child like fishing, eeling in the nearby river, collecting shellfish for the BBQ, and spending all day on the beach.

Family Vacation, Hotels (Hotels and Resorts), Parks and Recreation Areas, South America

Located in open area if the Peruvian tropical zone, the hotel is only 5 minutes by mototaxi (which are an event in themselves!) to Tingo Maria. Rather than rooms, we were supplied 3 cabins (more can be offered depending on the visitors needs). In each cabin was a terrace, rooms for eating and resting as well as a laundry and bathroom. Hot water was also available , even though the jungle heat generally leaves you wanted a cold shower instead.
The hotel has a good swimming pool, and a small area of access to the Tingo Maria Natural Reserve. Here you can see some endangered animals and a beautiful forest area where you are allowed to collect your own fruit! The hotel provides the usual cleaning, breakfast services and each bungalow has cable tv. The fittings are comfortable and good quality, but the restaurant is quite expensive. You can just take a short trip to nearby restaurants for cheaper food that is just as good. And they all offer typical fresh fruity tropical dishes.
As a last tip, take tons of insect repellent for the mozies and don`t attempt to travel after 6pm as there is almost no transport and can be quite dangerous in Tingo Maria.

Pembrokeshire itself is a relaxing beautiful place, so when we were there we decided to go the extra step and stay at lodge instead of a hotel. We were not disappointed, as the rooms were very nice indeed, the food excellent and the hosts are top notch. The price was also nice and cheap, making the lodge great value.
There are some nice woodland areas nearby for a walk, especially if you have a four-legged friend with you. After 15 minutes, you can also find yourself on the beachfront, but you might also be a bit muddy from the walk.
We also met quite a few returning clients for the lodge, which made us believe that this lodge has been a great stay for quite a while know. So make sure you book early as it s liable to be busy during the best times of the year.

I have been to more than ten ski centers over the last five years, but Donovaly is far the best! They have more than 17 km of slopes and lift lines are short even during the peak of the winter season.
As for the food and accommodation it really depends from place to place (I stayed in Sport Hotel). I’d decided for a bit more expensive alternative but It was worth it: Swimming pool and Jacuzzi along with tasty traditional breakfast in the Winter Garden.
I haven’t been to any ski centers outside of Slovakia, but I can recommend this one as the best in the country.
More information about this resort can be found at www.parksnow.sk/donovaly/en/ and about my hotel at www.sporthotel.sk.

If you find yourself in San Francisco (like I did last summer) and have some spare time, be sure to visit last resort to some of the most popular criminals of all times like Al Capone. Penitentiary is located just offshore of SF Bay and tours start every half an hour.
Don’t get too excited, you won’t find gang leaders there anymore, since Alcatraz is National Park now and this tour-company (www.alcatrazcruises.com) is the only one allowed to stop on the island.
I’d recommend buying your ticket (around $25 for adults + reserve some money for souvenirs) online to avoid long lines, especially during summer months. Tours start at “Fisherman’s Wharf” near Pier 39.

Mecsek is a mountain range in south Hungary and one of the countries National Parks. The highest peak is about 650 m, called “Zengő”. The climate is a mixture of mediterranean and continental climate, and this allows for a unique flora. The major cities in the area are Komló (an industrial and mining town) and Pécs (the county capital), but it is also advised to visit for example Orfű, Pécsvárad or Sikonda. If you prefer leaving your car, take a train through the mountains and enjoy the views. Also there are a number of apartments with bed and breakfast and campings in the villages if you plan to stay longer. If you get a licence (for a small administrative fee) from the National Park, you can even camp in the wild. There are a number of castles and ruins from the 12-15th century, like the Castle of Máré in Magyaregregy. The forests are quiet and the roads are of good quality, so the area is ideal for biking and walking. There are a number of look-out towers on the peaks. The springs has crystal clear, cold water that you can drink. There are a number of resting places for tourist and in many villages and small towns there is thermal and medical bath.

As part of the Peruvian tropics, Iquitos has no access via land transport, only by plane or boat. We took the plane option and then we traveled up the Amazon by boat for about an hour until we got to the Cumaceba Lodge.
The Lodge is a beautiful place away from the city and in fact, away from any other major item of civilization. We had 2 cabins for 3 people which included a lovely big hammock, but no electricity. During the nights, you could hear all the animals of the jungle, including a fellow with a guitar – but I preferred the parrots!
The cabins are made from typical materials of the native tribes, but still have a basic cold shower and toilet attached (but please remember that you can’t drink the water here). Fresh water was supplied in the meeting hall by the guides, as well as the daily meals of delicious fresh food of the jungle.
While the netting protected you from the insects, nothing can protect you from the curious Macaw parrots who will take over you cabin while you`re not looking. They have even picked up several English words to entertain the tourists as they steal your food. There are several fascinating trips that can be taken, both at night (a canoe trip to find crocodiles) or during the day (a visit to the local native tribe).

Park was created in 1974 to protect the middle part of Roztocze. Area of park is about 85 km2. It’s about 20 km from Zamosc. The most interesting things to see are:
- Zwierzyniec the small city which had belonged to the Zamoyski family. Zwierzyniec has his own brewery and „Church on the water” very beautiful, small church located on small island. Zwierzyniec could be also used as base to trips around Roztocze, there are planty of small hotels avaiable.
- Another interesting place is stricly protected area “Bukowa gora” about 2km from Zwierzyniec city center.
- Close to Zwierzyniec is also lake “Echo” with small beach.

This is a kind of park, situated in the marina of San Diego. It’s very near to San Diego Convention Centre. Those asking for a bit relaxation during the tiring (probably boring, too) business meetings, Seaport Village just provides a nice escape.
What’s in it? Well, first of all, it has enough space to walk. Green. Several types of restaurants are also available. A gift shop is also located almost in the middle.
Needless to say, being near to seaside relaxes you already.
It’s also near to Gaslamp Quarter.
A perfect place of relaxation for everyone.
