Makkah Intercontinental, Makkah, Saudi Arabia

Asia, Hotels (Hotels and Resorts), Not so good experience No Comments

We stayed in this hotel for one night only.

I was expecting a lot from this hotel, because of its brand; however I couldn’t find whatever I have been looking for.

First of all, when you come to the hotel, you think that the hotel is not operational anymore. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient for travellers coming from Jeddah. It’s located on the Third Ring Road, almost 10 kms away from Masjid Al-haram. Anyway, when I proceed to the reception, I gave my reservation confirmation printout. The receptionist even didn’t have a look at it. He just gave me a suit. I reserved a room through their web site (http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/intercontinental/en/gb/locations/overview/qcaha?rpb=hotel&crUrl=/h/d/6c/1/en/hotelsearchresults), which is supposed to be a suite with ”Oasis View”. I was really expecting a lot. The room that he gave me was a suite, indeed, but on the ground floor and there was no “Oasis View”. In fact, there is no “Oasis” to view. Anyway, I went back to the receptionist, ask for a change, after a few minutes discussion, he gave us a room on the 4th floor where we are supposed to have some view of “Oasis”. Anyway, there wasn’t any “Oasis”, the view was just the road in front of the hotel. But there was something. There was a periodical noise that would disturb us through the night. The shower was not working, the water of the water closet was “yellowish/brownish”.

I went back to the reception. I looked at 2-3 more rooms. At the end, we decided to have our first room back. I’m sure the guy at the reception was not happy with us.

Anyway, the room was spacious. Gave us good space to relax. We have only taken the breakfast at the hotel. It was simply OK. There were not many choices; they even brought “honey” upon our request.

The hotel staff was so friendly. They are the only sources of smiling faces.

Hotel has shuttle service to Masjid Al-haram - which is a very big plus.

Overall, the quality of the hotel is not good. I think the structure is already 30+ years old and so are the furnitures. The hotel needs renovation and I am sure that after renovation it will be a key point for people who are visiting Makkah for any purposes. There is no picture of the hotel is shown on their web site; this is unusual and surprising.

Hotel Safari, Iquitos, Peru

Hotels (Hotels and Resorts), Leisure, Not so good experience, South America No Comments

When we got to Iquitos, it was very late so our choice of hotel was limited to which still had rooms for the night. The placed we ended up staying at, the Safari Hotel, was just off the Main Square, and our bedroom had a view to Tarapaca Bay and a lake called a Amazonas ( because it is filled by the Amazon river).

The area around the hotel was very commercial and noisy. There were many bars, clubs, and casinos just on the doorstep. Regardless, we still sleep well through the night. The bedrooms were small, but the bed was comfortable enough, but the main thing which is essential in the jungle, the air condition unit was fully operational. The room for breakfast was quite large, while the breakfast itself was the standard continental breakfast to get in most hotels.

Hotel Kyjev, Bratislava, Slovakia

Europe, Hotels (Hotels and Resorts), Not so good experience No Comments

This hotel is certainly not a place to spend romantic weekend visiting Bratislava. Look of the hotel takes you to 80’s and Communist Slovakia. I stayed here in ’07 and this hotel was my choice because of the location (about 10 minutes from the “old-town”), price, and because I did not expect much during my two day stay.

My room was in need for renovation (especially rusty toilet) but thumbs-up goes to friendly staff and great breakfast.

My advice: Don’t expect too much for a low budget.

Monarch Hotel, San Francisco, CA, USA

Cities, Hotels (Hotels and Resorts), North America, Not so good experience No Comments

If you are looking for a cheap accommodation in the center of the SF (about 15 minutes from Union Square) then this hotel might be for you. But don’t expect too much for your money like, for example: friendly staff or quiet at night, because you might just get disappointed. I know I was, because this was my first visit to SF and right after arrival I had an argument with the manager about the hygiene in my room. No “gentle people there” like the song says, trust me.

Overall experience: Terrible. If you have a choice go somewhere else as there are other great hotels around. I could never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Elephantine Island Resort, Aswan, Egypt

Africa, Family Vacation, Hotels (Hotels and Resorts), Not so good experience No Comments

This resort is located in the city center of Aswan. It is a short drive away from the Philae Temple. It is a 5 stars hotel but unfortunately I didn’t feel that. when I arrived to the resort it seemed pleasant and the reception was quite good, I booked a small room B&B and then all bad things starts to appear from there. The swimming pool, well what can I say, was dirty, The food was not very good. The weather in Aswan was very hot and I didn’t feel with the air condition working well, and the bedroom was clean but was not comfortable at all (I don’t know why?).

Finally, I got displeased with this hotel and would recommend that anyone intending to stay in Aswan to consider other options.
